The Nigerian senator representing Bauchi South at the Senate, Mallam Ali Wakil, has passed away, at age 58.

According to report Wakili, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation, died following a brief illness on Saturday.

Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu confirmed the death of the vibrant lawmaker in a phone interview.

He said the Senate President, Bukola Saraki was shocked when he was informed of the passage of the lawmaker.

However, efforts to speak to the Senate spokesperson, Sabi Abdullahi, failed to yield any result as he neither picked his calls nor replied text messages.
