The Federal Government says it remains resolute on holistically addressing the clashes between farmers and herdsmen which have become a major national security concern in many parts of the country.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, made the disclosure while addressing State House correspondents on Wednesday, shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The Federal government is very distressed about the herdsmen and farmers clashes and they are receiving attention at the highest level,” the minister said.
The minister also backed the government's proposal for the establishment of cattle colonies.
On the reason the FG is yet to set-up a full-blown military operation in the affected parts of Benue State, the minister said that would be a decision after thorough deliberation of the matter.
President Muhammadu Buhari while preventing further loss of lives and properties on Tuesday ordered the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately move to Benue State.
On his arrival in Benue on Wednesday, Mr Idris assured both the state governor and the people that all those behind the incessant killings will be brought to book.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has also deployed Special Forces to restore peace in attacked communities of Benue, Taraba and Nasarawa states.
