Former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme has been confirmed dead. According to a statement issued by his brother and the Traditional ruler of Oko in Anambra state, Igwe Laz Ekwueme , the former Vice President died on Sunday night around 10:00pm in London where he was receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.
The statement read;
“Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON. The sad event occurred at the London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”
Recall that Ekwueme was flown abroad last week by the Federal Government for proper medical attention after he collapsed and was rushed to the Memfys Neurosurgery Hospital Enugu.
When contacted, Igwe Ekwueme said the family members are yet to meet with a view to designing the burial programme.
