The Federal Government has called on Nigerian Youths yet to be captured in the National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP) to do as efforts are being put in place to increase the number of beneficiaries this year.
The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed made the call on Thursday in Abuja at an event organized to mark the second year of President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The N-SIP the Scheme according to the minister was introduced to reduce poverty and improve the livelihood of unemployed youths and other vulnerable categories of people. She stated that so far about 1.6 million persons have been empowered through the four components of the N-SIP which include National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, Conditional Cash Transfer, and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme.
According to the minister “about 200,000 beneficiaries have been employed and we are supposed to increase it to 500,000 beneficiaries in 2017. There is opportunity in the N-Power Programme for employment. There is opportunity in the GEEP for you to get finances to be able to start businesses. This is real; it is working, join the process and be a beneficiary”
She further disclosed that the initial delay recorded in the implementation of the programme was to allow for the emplacement of machinery to facilitate efficiency and eliminate possible fraud and in the scheme.
