The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership has named Dennis Idahosa as running mate to Senator Monday Okpebholo in the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial polls. Okpebholo, who during the February 17 primary election came second to Idahosa; although, was announced winner in a parallel election.
It would be recalled that the primary election conducted in February, produced three different winners. Dennis Idahosa with 40,453 votes, Monday Okpebholo with over 12,000 votes, and Anamero Dekeri. This development led to an uproar forcing the party to declare the election inconclusive, and therefore ordered for a rerun on 22 February which eventually produced Monday Okpebholo as winner with 12,433 votes while Dennis Idahosa came second with 6,541 votes.
Unsatisfied with proceedings, Idahosa challenged the outcome before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before heading to a Federal High Court in Abuja. However, the party’s national leadership including National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, Okpebholo himself, and several other party chieftains held a meeting on Sunday night, and unveiled Idahosa as the running mate, replacing the governor's choice, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama.
Ganduje and the party’s National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru, are scheduled to present Okpebholo and Idahosa to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
