The 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan Land, HRM Oba Mohood Olalekan Balogun, has passed away at the age of 81. The media aide to the late monarch Oladele Ogunsola revealed in a statement made available to journalists that Oba Balogun died on Thursday evening, a few hours after admission at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Oyo state capital. The remains of the late monarch will be interred according to Islamic rites Friday March 15, 2024, at his Aliiwo ancestral home in Ibadan. “Oba Balogun would be buried at his Aliiwo ancestral home by 4.pm on Friday (today), according to Islamic rites. The State Governor, Seyi Makinde, though already verbally informed, would be formally notified early this morning,” Ogunsola said.

" Aged 81, the late monarch was taken to hospital Wednesday morning having stayed in door throughout Tuesday on account of slight malaria fever, though, he was hale and hearty on Monday during which he personally received a few guests that paid him congratulatory visits on his second anniversary on that day."

Born in 1942, Oba Balogun, who was a Fourth Republic Senator, represented Oyo Central senatorial district between 1999 and 2003.

He ascended the throne on March 11, 2022, after the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Oguguniso III. Adetunji, 93, had died on January 2, 2022, after reigning from March 4, 2016.

With the unique succession system of Olubadan stool, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the current Balogun Olubadan of Ibadan, who is next in line, will be officially announced after the traditional 21 days of mourning, as the next Olubadan of Land.

The late Olubadan is survived by his wives, children, and grandchildren.
