A Federal High Court sitting in Enugu State has ordered the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to replace Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary. The court issued an interim order in Enugu, compelling the defendants in the suit, PDP National Chairman, PDP National Secretary, Deputy National Chairman South East to recognise Sunday UDEH-Okoye as person recommended by South East zonal Executive Committee to replace the former, pending the determination of the motion on notice is determined. Anyanwu is the PDP governorship candidate for the forthcoming election in Imo State.
The order was granted while ruling in a motion on notice filed by Nwabueze Ugwu seeking the court to declare Senator Anyanwu’s seat vacant.
The matter has been adjourned to October 30 for the hearing of the motion on notice.
In April, Anyanwu became the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming November 11 election in Imo.
In a communique, south-east PDP said the unanimous decision was reached at a meeting attended by members across the zone.
Party members in the region argued that it would be a distraction for Anyawu to assume the roles of national secretary and standard-bearer for the PDP in Imo.
