The All Progressive Congress (APC) has disclosed that the party is not planning to adopt former President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate for the 2023 presidential candidate.

Last week, there were speculations that the ruling party and some governors were working hard towards endorsing Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2023 general election.

However, the Extraordinary Caretaker Chairman of the party who is also the Governor of Yober state, Mai Mala Buni, has described the rumor as unfounded which only exists in the imagination of its peddlers.

While speaking to the BBC Hausa service yesterday evening, Buni said that the story was not true.

In his statement, “I know people will judge based on our visit to Jonathan when he celebrated his birthday. But that is just a visit to him as a former president, it has no political inclinations. He is a former president and an elder statesman who is respected by many people in the country.

He added, “Did Jonathan declare interest to contest for the presidency? In politics, we do visit each other either for celebration or to sympathize depending on what happened to anyone among us,”.

According to the Governor, former president Jonathan is a patriotic citizen and a peace promoter who has proven himself and all political parties in the country respect him.

Meanwhile, Buni stated that when the time is due, his party will unveil its candidate, but right now, consultation is still ongoing.
