Following the suspension of the Ruga (cattle colony) that set Nigerians protesting which leads to its suspension by the Federal Government, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state has unveiled his plan to forge ahead with the scheme amidst its controversy.
The Governor disclosed this after a closed-door meeting with President Buhari at the state House of Presidential villa Abuja.
President Buhari had on Wednesday amidst protest from different part of the country especially the South East and the South-South suspended the plan of the Ruga colony till further notice.
The program was initiated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in preference for the National Economic Council’s National Livestock Transformation Plan.
Governor Yahaya who spoke in Hausa Language to Journalist said the President Buhari plan for the cattle colony was a laudable achievement that should have been greeted with commendation; unfortunately, it was misunderstood by many.
However, as for Gombe states who its people are predominantly Fulanis, we will forge ahead with the plan as scheduled the Governor added.
In his words, “As I speak to you now, Gombe state government has set aside over 200,000 hectares of land for the implementation of the Ruga Settlement scheme in the state.
“because some states have rejected it doesn’t mean that Gombe state will not go ahead to implement it.
According to the governor, he doubts if the pilot scheme is actually suspended, he said they are going to continue with the program, saying this is the right time to implement such amidst the farmer herder’s clash that has bedeviled all part of the country.
