President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting which reportedly lasted for about thirty minutes, ended around 2.35pm. There was however no disclosure of the agenda of the meeting.
The private meeting is coming a day after Idris was officially due to retire from service, having served for 35 years. He will also clock 60 years on January 15.
Idris refused to speak to State House Correspondents after the brief meeting.
Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, the umbrella body of opposition parties in the country, had accused President Muhammadu Buhari of planning to retain the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, beyond his legal tenure because he is drilling a special force to help the ruling party rig the 2019 elections. This allegation had since been denied by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
