Catholic faithful and laity of the crisis ridden Ahiara Catholic Diocese, Mbiase, Imo State, yesterday protested at the Cathedral premises, over what they called ‘imposition of Bishop Peter Opkaleke. Pope Francis had on 8 June, 2017, after a meeting at the Vatican directed that priest and laity of the diocese accept appointment of Bishop Peter Okpaleke ordained on 2012 to oversee the Diocese.

Nigeria today assumed the Chairmanship of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. The PSC is the standing organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.

He was reacting to calls for a referendum by Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

The newly appointed Director General of the Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha, has resumed office. She takes over from Dr. Abraham Nwankwo, a respected Economics who was appointed to head the agency in 2007.
