The Nigerian Senate has reacted to the recent disclosure the Monthly Salary and allowances of senators by Sen. Shehu Sani, Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District. The Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi while reacting to the outrage that greeted the disclosure said there was nothing new in Senator Sani's comments.

He explained that the cost of the offices of Senators was contained in various line items and expenditure heads of the budget of the National Assembly which has been made public. “Almost all holders of elective and appointive offices have running costs allocated to their offices and that cannot be said to be part of their salaries.”

He added that issues like traveling, medicals, consultancy and others were captured in the budget. The issue of salary and allowances earned by members of the National Assembly had remained on the front burner of public discourse, with the senate failing to make public its earnings.

However, in a recent interview, Senator Sani disclosed that Senator get N13.5 million as running cost apart from the N750, 000 monthly consolidated salaries.
