The Ministry of Defence has conducted military pension verification exercise across the country with the aim of blocking all leakages in government expenditure. The Minister of Defence, Dan-Ali who inaugurated the exercise at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja stated that the exercise would assist the government in updating existing records as well as eliminate fake or dead pensioners from the records.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Denfence, Mrs. Nuratu Batagarawa who represented the Minister disclosed that the exercise would last for a period of one week.
“The military pensions exercise is conducted by the defence ministry to re-appraise the effectiveness of the military pensions’ administration with a view to making improvements. The overall objective of this exercise is to block leakages in the expenditures of the Federal Government, update the pensioners’ records and to improve the integrity of the military pensions’ database.
It is also aimed at eliminating deceased and fake pensioners from the system. We are conducting this exercise nationwide at designated military and non-military formations. We appreciate the courage and sacrifices of some of the pensioners who participated in the Second World War, the Nigerian civil war, the peace support operations around the world and internal security operations.
I solicit the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure a successful conduct of the 2017 military pensions’ verification exercise, which will help us to block leakages in the expenditure of the government.”
