The Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has confirmed that the agency is seeking the extradition of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, following corruption allegations leveled against her. Magu made the disclosure on Thursday while addressing newsmen and civil society groups in Abuja.
According to him “I want you to know that nobody will go unpunished. We are even seeking to extradite Diezani, but investigations are still ongoing. We have reached a level where nobody can stop us in the fight against corruption, but we all must realize that we are all stakeholders, and this fight is for the future generation.”
He called on Nigerians to assist the EFCC to succeed in the fight against corruption in the country.
“EFCC can only do its best; but we must support the agency, and the law should take its course, policies should be strengthened, and punishment must be meted out in good time. Every evil that is happening now is caused by corruption: agitations, strikes, whatever. Corruption has chased our good human resources out of the country. It is the duty of this generation to correct the evils caused by corruption,” he added.
Magu's position is coming weeks after Concerned Nigerians Group led by Deji Adeyanju and Charles Oputa (Charly Boy) led a peaceful protest to the Commission's office in Abuja seeking the extradition of the former minister. They claimed that since the EFCC alleged she stole huge public funds, it must commence immediate extradition process against the minister.
Allison-Madueke is currently in the United Kingdom. She is also being investigated by the UK Government over corruption related allegations.
