The striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) said the Federal Government was yet to formally invite the Union for the continuation of negotiation to end the ongoing industrial action. The president of the Union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi stated this on Sunday in a chat with Punch. He explained that though the aggrieved University lecturers were ready and willing to dialogue with the Federal Government, no invitation had been extended to them for such engagement.
“We have not received any invitation from the government, but we are ready for talks anytime they call us for negotiations.”
He, however, refrained from blaming the Federal Government for the delay in the commencement of negotiation stressing that the development may have been caused by the Sallah break. He expressed optimism that the government would call for the resumption of negotiation this week.
Last week, the Vice President Prof. Yomi Osinbajo was elected to head the negotiation committee. He is however yet to meet with the lecturers.
