The Supreme Court has on Monday adjourned the hearing of an application seeking the review of the judgement on Imo state governorship election till Tuesday, March 3rd. The sacked governor, Emeka Ihedioha is demanding the apex court to revisit the judgement that sacked him from the Imo state government house, also, he is praying the Court to sack Senator Hope Uzodinma as the Governor of the Imo state.
The Supreme Court sacked Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on January 14, 2020, and confirmed Uzodinma of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Imo state.
Uzodinma while in court argued that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wrongfully excluded the result of 388 pooling units where he had the highest votes.
The apex court granted his prayer based on this claim and declared him governor of the state.
After appearing in court today, Kanu Agabi, counsel to Ihedioha urged the court to give him more time to get his reply ready with his application by the Uzodinma legal counsel.
“The matter was adjourned for hearing and just few moments ago we were served with a process and we will have to look at it. If it is convenient for us to come back tomorrow,” he said.
On his part, Damian Dodo, counsel to Uzodinma, said they were ready to proceed with the hearing.
Dodo said, “The applicants were served with the process this morning because they filed on Friday. Today is the earliest we could file. We are prepared to proceed,”
After considering both parties, the seven-man panel of justices led by Ibrahim Muhammad, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), adjourned the hearing till Tuesday.
