The Boko Haram sect has released a video of the staff of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) who were captured in Magumeri local government area of Borno state. The victims were attacked while returning from an oil exploration trip to the Lake Chad Basin. The terrorist group that faction led by Abu Musab Al Barnawi claimed responsibility for the attack and kidnap of the oil exploration workers.

Five of their colleagues were killed alongside staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), military personnel and members of the civilian joint task force. The death toll from the attack is reported to be about 69 persons.

Analyst suggests that their decision to release the photo of those they abducted may not be unconnected with the desire for negotiations to free the captives.

Those in the picture released by the sect are Yusuf Ibrahim, Solomon Yusuf and Haruna Dashe.
