President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday 24th, September 2019, while delivering his debate at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) holding in New York, United States, disclosed that his Administration is committed to reducing extreme poverty and hunger in the country.
He made the assertion at the ‘high-level side-event on “SDGs Integration - Bridging the Policy Planning; Budgeting Gap for the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals".
Buhari told the session that one example was the plan to take 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years.
In his words “It is for this reason that in May this year, we committed ourselves to lift approximately 100 million Nigerians out of poverty within a ten (10) year period", Buhari stated.
President Buhari also stressed that lifting Nigerians out of poverty was a national priority and in line with the aspirations of the SDGs.
Buhari highlighted one out of the numerous steps taken by his Administration to actualized the plan as, the establishment of an ambitious National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) targeting the poor and vulnerable members of the Nigerian population.
