The President of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan on Thursday withdrew the appointment of Mr. Festus Adedayo barely 48 hours after his announcement as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
The withdrawal was made known in a statement by the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Mohammed Isa. The statement said the appointment was rescinded in his best interest.
Part of the statement reads:
“The office of the President of the Senate has reviewed the appointment of Mr. Festus Adedayo as Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate and decided to rescind its decision on the appointment, and wishes Mr. Adebayo the best in his future endeavors.”
Lawan's decision to reverse Adedayo's appointment may not be unconnected with the criticism that greeted the move. The Buhari Media Organization had on Wednesday condemned the appointment, describing it as surprising.
A statement by its chairman, Niyi Akinsiju says Adedayo had been very critical of the current administration and should not be appointed to serve in the government.
The statement read in part; "In fact, we're surprised that Adedayo would consider, let alone accept, an appointment under the APC after all he had done to denigrate and diminish the party before, during and after the February elections.
"This was a man who railed unceasingly at the APC and its Presidential candidate. This is the prophet of doom who predicted the imminent disintegration of Nigeria and that Buhari might be the last President of Nigeria"
