Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Director, strategic communication of president Buhari 2019 campaign has on Thursday advised Nigerians not to fall for a purported video circulating online claiming the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), allegedly spoke of the commission plan to electronically transmit results before the election.
Mr, Keyamo described the video as an entertainment piece fabricated by the opposition to entertain Nigerians and shall not be taken seriously by any.
The campaign Director disclosed this via his twitter handle; he said “Without referring to any particular pending Election Petition, there’s a need to draw the attention of Nigerians not to gullibly fall for the fantasy created by the circulating video where INEC official(s) were purportedly planning to electronically transmit results before the elections.
Keyamo further stated, “The video(s) of some INEC official(s) expressing an intention to electronically transmit results is known antics of the opposition to sway gullible Nigerians. The procedure is neither contained in the Electoral Act nor in INEC’s Guidelines. Law Courts are only guided by these documents and not such entertainment videos.
The Director who is also a lawyer made some clarification that, “, what you plan to do may be different from what you ACTUALLY DID. He said Assuming INEC planned to transmit result electronically, and subsequently said after the election that it did not do so, the matter ends there especially as the Electoral Act & the Guidelines did not compel INEC to do so.
According to Keyamo, “In anticipation of their wishful thinking of electronic transmission, some crooks concocted fictitious results and were set perhaps in connivance with some INEC insiders (or through hacking) tried to upload those results into the server so that they can perfect their claim. Consequently, as the electronic transmission didn’t happen their planned failed.
He revealed that The irony is the real cheats are the ones struggling to create a narrative that they were cheated and crying foul; conversely, the real crooks are the ones struggling to convince everyone that the system is crooked; those who actually planned to steal are the same villains that are crying the victim card.
