Senator representing Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege, has appeared before a joint ad hoc committee of the National Assembly over the alleged theft of senate mace. The senator appeared before the committee to answer questions about the recent invasion of the National Assembly by alleged hoodlums.
Prior to the invasion of the senate chambers, the senator was suspended for 90 legislative days after accusing his colleagues of working against President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid in 2019.
Following his suspension from the senate, the lawmaker was alleged to have led thugs to the Upper Legislative chambers on April 18, 2018 to steal the mace while plenary was ongoing.
A Federal High Court had since overturned Omo-Agege’s suspension.
The lawmaker, following the court’s ruling, had last week resumed at the upper legislative chamber.
Omo-Agege was consequently summoned before the committee last week.
During today’s investigation, the Senator insisted that he cannot answer questions from the committee because the matter is in court and discussing it will amount to subjudice.
