No fewer than 60 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) have today stormed the National Industrial Court in solidarity to challenge the Federal Government and the National Assembly to demand pay raise for Nigerian judges. According to the report, the Senior lawyers who showed up in the court were to challenge the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), the National Judicial Council, NJC, and the National Assembly demanding the upwards review of remuneration for the Nigerian judges.
The SANs mobilized in all parts of the country in a show of solidarity with their own have already commenced consultation on how to confront the authorities with their argument and the reason they will be able to convince the federal government in the court.
Senior amongst equal of the SANs that have graced the solidarity were; Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, Kanu Agabi, Sebastine (Hon), Godwin Obla, Emeka Ngige, and Mike Ozekhome.
Others included Taiwo Taiwo, Emeka Etiaba, Paul Ogbole, Henry Akunebu, Audi Anuga, John Asoluka, and Hassan Liman.
Chief Solomon Awomolo, SAN, and Kanu Agabi, SAN are the two senior colleagues that were penciled to make the presentation on behalf of their colleagues at the gathering in a suit as was filled by Chief Sebastian Hon (SAN).
Meanwhile, Justice Osatohanmwen Obasrki-Osaghae is expected to preside over the matter and was being awaited in the courtroom, before the discussion is started.
Though it was revealed that the defendants had four lawyers that are expected to speak on their behalf, they were overshadowed by the number of the lawyer colleagues present in the courtroom.
The suit, marked, NIC/ABJ/CS/595/2022, is asking the court to compel the defendants to increase the salaries and allowances of judges in the country.
