A 23-year-old woman, identified as Amanda Uchechi Ugo, has reportedly shot and killed police officer Cosmos Ugwu at the Ezinihitte Area Command in Imo State. Ugo, who is said to be the victim's girlfriend perpetrated the shocking crime on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, around 6:30 pm. Officers on counter duty were said to have taken to their heels when they heard three gunshots from the room being occupied by the deceased officer. The Police Public Relations Officer in Imo State, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident to journalists saying that the suspect has been arrested. He added that the police were doing everything to ascertain what really transpired.
“Yes, the incident happened. We are doing everything to ensure we investigate the matter, to ascertain the fact and possibly arraign the suspect in court,” Okoye said.
“The incident is a very unfortunate one. This thing happened two days ago. She allegedly shot the officer and he was immediately rushed to a hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
“Currently, the suspect has been arrested and she will be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department, CID.
“There, a forensic investigation will be carried out after which she will be arraigned in court with an appropriate criminal charge,” he added.
