The Federal High Court sitting in Dawaki, Abuja convicted four Boko Haram financiers who are Modu Aisami, Umar Mohammed, Zana Zarama and Bunu Kame. This was disclosed on Monday in a statement issued by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, which stated that the prosecution team was led by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
The statement reads, “According to the charge filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, M. B. Abubakar, Aisami provided funds for the terrorist group by buying food products from the group, having reasonable grounds to believe that the proceeds would be used to commit a terrorist act, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 13 (1)(a)(ii) of the Terrorism Provision Amendment Act, 2013.”
The presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako convicted Aisami to 20 years imprisonment for each of the offences which is to run concurrently.
Justice Nyako also convicted another defendant, Zarama to 10 years imprisonment for concealing the identity of a Boko Haram member, Modu Sulum, adding that the jail terms should commence from the day the defendants had been in custody.
In a separate trial, Justice Emeka Nwite convicted the other 2 defendants, Mohammed and Kame to 10 years imprisonment.
