According to reports, armed men stormed the Senior Staff Quarters of the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada, Abuja on Tuesday morning. Gunmen attacked the staff quarters located at Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Tuesday morning at 1 am. The attack was confirmed by the university’s spokesman, Habib Yakoob, and also confirmed on the university’s official Facebook page. The Facebook post reads, “Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the University in the early hours of today.
“Our Safety Officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.
“We have report that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men.
“Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed!”
The Federal Capital Territory, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent Josephine Adeh said FCT’s Commissioner of Police (CP) Babaji Sunday has deployed additional tactical police teams in and around the university’s main and satellite campuses.
She said, “The CP gave the order following report that some yet to be identified armed criminals invaded the UNIABUJA Staff Quarters located at the GIRI area of the FCT in the early hours of today, 2nd November 2021.
“The CP noted that a combined team of the Police and personnel of the Nigerian Army 176 Guards Battalion were swiftly mobilized to protect the citizens.”
According to reports, the six people abducted are Prof. Obanza Malam, Dr. Tobit, Sambo Mohammed, and Prof. Bassey Ubom with his son and daughter.
She further said, “The CP, while calling for calm, further noted that the security forces are already working with the locals in the area toward rescuing the victims. He assured that the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book.
