Again, Court Rejects Abba Kyari's Bail Request

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday dismissed a fresh bail application that was brought before it by the detained Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari, who is facing a drug trafficking charge.
Delivering the court ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite, held that the suspended DCP, failed to establish why its previous decision that ordered his remand at Kuje prison pending the determination of the case against him, should be set-side. Justice Nwite said that the reasons adduced for the bail request had been addressed in the earlier application, which was denied. Kyari, put on trial by the Federal Government on alleged drug trafficking offenses, is to remain in Kuje prison pending his trial on the charges.

Nigerian Army Rescues Kidnapped Persons In Kaduna State

The Nigerian Army, on Friday, said security operatives have rescued some kidnapped victims in Manini village, along Pole Wire, Birnin Gwari road, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. According to a statement by Director Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, the successful operation was executed by a combined team of operatives led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, accompanied by a team of operational commanders.

Deborah Samuel: Police Still Searching For Her Killers

The Sokoto State Police Command has said its men are still searching for the suspected killers of a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Deborah Samuel. Samuel was stoned to death in May 2022, by some students believed to be her classmates over allegations of blasphemy. When questioned about the silence on the case, the spokesman for the command, DSP Sanusi Abubakar, said those arrested by the police were not the prime suspects, stressing that they were only among those who organised the riot.

Four Abducted Catholic Sisters Regain Their Freedom

The four Catholic sisters abducted along the Okigwe-Umulolo axis of Okigwe LGA in Imo state have regained their freedom. Secretary-general of the Sister of Jesus The Saviour, Zita Ihedoro, confirmed their release on Tuesday in a statement, where she revealed that their release was unconditional. The four sisters, namely, Johannes Nwodo, Christable Echemazu, Liberata Mbamalu, and Benita Agu were kidnapped on their way to a thanksgiving mass in the LGA on Sunday.
