Power Distribution Companies in Nigeria have yesterday said they are yet to receive any directive from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) over tariff suspension entered into by the labor and the Federal government. Findings revealed that the DisCos are confused about the agreement reached by the Federal government and the Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) while negotiating strike suspension yesterday.
A senior official of the power distribution companies revealed yesterday that they are waiting for the NERC office to communicate to them officially and come up with the new tariff plan which is to be implemented within the said two weeks.
Monitoring revealed that up till 7 pm yesterday, no official directive was sent from the NERC to DisCos concerning the suspension.
Moreover, according to the DisCos, it may take them between three to four days to redirect their system to revert back to the old billing system even if there were directive.
The statement from an official who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “There is no communication yet from the regulator on that matter and I wonder how that can be implemented because right now, it is causing confusion in the power sector,”
Another top official of the DisCo who was part of the meeting disclosed that the regulatory agency is yet to tell them what to do.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of NERC, James Momoh could be not be reached to comment on the matter.
