An outbreak of Lassa fever in Federal Government Girls’ College, Lantang, Plateau State, has claimed the life of a student.

Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kamshak Kudeng, while confirming the Lassa outbreak, assured that a team of Doctors would be sent to Lantang community.

The case is the first to be in the state.

Of the four students who were tested for the disease,three tested positive while the fourth that later died was buried on Friday.

Dr. Kudeng said those who came in contact with the affected students, including Doctors and Nurses who attended to them at Jos University Teaching Hospital, would be placed on 21-day surveillance.
