The Enugu state ministry of Health has revealed that the suspected patient of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state was later tested negative after investigation.
Contained in a press statement signed by Dr Ifeanyi Agujiobi, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health in Enugu after he received the investigation report send to Irua Specialist Hospital in Edo, the result which was further corroborated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as ‘NEGATIVE’.
In his statement, while addressing newsmen said, “We hereby enjoin the general public to go about their normal business, however, to remain alert and vigilant observing basic personal health hygiene,”
The suspected patient, a 70-year-old woman, had a recent history of having travelled to the United Kingdom where she spent five months and had just returned to the country.
He said the said patient was in stable condition in the isolation centre at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane and receiving the best available medical attention.
In a quest to arrest the menace, the state government released the sum of N20 million to the management of the State Isolation Centre to ensure all facilities needed to be used are set at the centre in case of an eventuality over the weekend.
Mr Chidi Aroh, the commissioner for information made the disclosure in Enugu while addressing the newsmen.
According to him, the state Governor, Ifeanyi ugwuanyi has made readily available all required logistic support needed to make the Ministry of Heath respond to Emergency situations and at the same time functioning optimally in the state.
The commissioner assured the General public that all relevant agencies and institutions in the state were fully operational to accommodate any emergency that may arise from the coronavirus emergencies or other health-related matters.
The state government maintained that “there is absolutely no reason to panic”.
He added, “The good people of Enugu State are further encouraged to ensure the highest level of personal hygiene including the regular washing of their hands and use of sanitizers in public places”, the commissioner said.
