The Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the Senate, Ben Bruce has reacted to the recent ban on the production, sale and consumption of Codeine by the Federal Government. The Common Sense Senator who condemned the ban said Nigerians should instead ban the bad governance that made the young people so desperate that they had nothing to look forward to in life.

“Instead of banning codeine, Nigeria should ban the bad governance that makes young people so desperate that they have nothing to look forward to in life.

“We can’t keep insulting them for being uneducated when we don’t build schools or as lazy when we don’t provide jobs for them.”

Recall that the Federal Government through the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole had directed the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ban with immediate effect further production, sale and consumption of codeine in the country. The directive also barred NAFDAC from issuing permit to dealers for the importation of the substance.
