The President of the United States, Donald Trump has hailed Chinese authorities for sending an envoy to North Korea amid rising tension in the Korean Peninsula. On Thursday, China sent a delegation to North Korea to negotiate with Kim Jong Un on the possibility of halting further nuclear test.
According to CNN, Song Tao, head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, is due to arrive in North Korea on Friday. It's the first time a senior official has made a public visit to North Korea this year.
Trump who hailed and described the move as 'big' said the United States government will keenly watch how development unfolds in the coming days. His tweet read;
"China is sending an envoy and delegation to North Korea - A big move, we'll see what happens!"
Recall that the US leader just finished a two-week tour of Asia, including a stop in Beijing, during which he called for greater diplomatic pressure to be put on North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.
Trump had on Thursday described his tour of Asia as fruitful declaring that "America is back again." His comments may not be unconnected with some of the achievements he claimed to have recorded during the tour including the North Korean issue and correction of all trade imbalances and unfair deals.
Meanwhile, critics have berated him for failing to blame China for engaging in unfair trade deals. They also noted that though Trump had reiterated his resolve to correct trade imbalances he failed to obtain written commitment from the parties involved in such deals.
