About half a million people on Saturday staged a colorful peace march in Barcelona after the city was attacked twice by terrorist elements killing at least 16 persons. The march was organized on the various social media platforms with the hash tag #NoTincPor--- Catalan for 'I am not afraid", a slogan shouted repeatedly by the protesters who were marching to Passeig de Gracia shopping avenue.
According to CNN, the march was attended by high profile individuals including Spanish King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. The duo in a separate interview stated that the march was to demonstrate Barcelona's unity and cultural diversity.
Some of the protesters displayed placards with various inscriptions such as "No to Islamophobia"; "I am Muslim. I am not a terrorist," and "Islam is peace. The solution is peace. Peace is equal for all."
The Spanish Police confirmed the march on its Twitter handle. It tweeted a picture from the march and wrote "Today there is only one message and it is the rejection of terrorism. Respect all cultures and let's say #Imnotafraid #NoTincPor."
Recall that on August 18, a vehicle mowed down a pedestrian in the Coastal town of Cambrils. The incident led to the death of one person. An earlier attacked had claimed the lives of more people. Meanwhile, five assailants in the car were shot dead by the Police at the scene of the incident.
