Kannywood Actress Hauwa Maina Is Dead, Presidency Reacts

The death has been announced of one of Nigeria’s most prominent actresses, Hauwa Maina.

Hauwa, known for Hausa movies, died Wednesday night, at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in Kano, after a protracted illness and will be laid to rest today in Kaduna, according to Islamic rites.

Many Kannywood celebrities including Ali Nuhu condoled with the family of the deceased, posting her photos on social media and praying for the repose of her soul.

She was famous for her roles in epic Hausa movies including 'Queen Amina' and 'Bayajida'.

Late Hauwa also appeared in a number of other films such as Sarauniya Amina, Gwaska and Maina, which were produced by her company, Ma'inta Enterprises Limited.

In a related development, the presidency has reacted to her death following a tweet by President Buhari's Personal Assistant on New Media, Ahmad Bashir.

"Oh God, she was indeed a Veteran. I grew up watching her on TV. May Allah forgive all her shortcomings, accept her and grant her Jannatul Firdaus."

"My condolence to you @AliNuhu, @AminuSaira, @AdizatouGabon and all your colleagues," Bashir wrote.
