Yesterday, one of Davido's aides identified as Kayode assaulted several Nigerian Customs Service operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos in an attempt to prevent them from carrying out their duties. Popular Nigerian singer, Davido returned to Nigeria on Thursday after a short vacation abroad. The vacation came after the 'Fia' crooner organized a sold-out 30 Billion gang concert in December at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
Trouble started when the Checkport staff at the airport attempted to verify Davido's checked luggage with the attached tags. Rather than allow the staff to carry out his official duty, the aide (Kayode) insisted that he would not allow him to verify the luggage, resulting to heated arguments and fisticuffs.
According to Saharareporters, Kayode punched the Checkport staff on the face, a development that attracted other security officials at the terminal who immediately attempted to arrest the aide. He was eventually neutralized and detained temporary at the holding facility at the airport.
The report said although Davido who had ran to a waiting car eventually returned to persuade the security operatives to release his aide, they were all adamant with some insisting that the matter must be taken up. Out of the 17 bags checked in by the singer, it was gathered that one contained hard currencies. The report quoted an eye witness as saying ;
“Whenever Davido arrives the airport, he usually leave his check-in luggage for his aides to clear. Immediately he arrives on a flight, he goes out and will start doling out money outside the terminal.
“Today, he arrived as usual with several luggage and about 17 in all. The rule is that whenever you arrive, you are expected to release your tags to the Checkport staff for confirmation and verification, but rather than comply with the simple rule, one of his aides insisted he won’t allow them to check the tags.
“He rebuffed everyone who were carrying out their lawful duties and resorted to attack the officials. No fewer than four officials were beaten by the person in question with at least two of them soaked in blood.
“When he was uncontrollable, he was bundled into the cell and he insisted that he must be taken to a police station. This however, attracted Davido’s attention who was already out of the terminal. He had to return, but the security officials refused to hand over the luggage to him.
One of the luggage we even gathered contained some money in foreign currencies.”
