Members of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) on Saturday reiterated their resolve to commence indefinite industrial action on Monday. The group said since it issued a statement informing the general public that the meeting with the Federal Government was deadlocked, no significant progress had since been made to avert the planned action.
Recall that on Friday, PENGASSAN announced that it would embark on an indefinite strike on Monday following a stalemate in the peace meeting which the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, brokered between the union and Neconde Energy Limited.
The union said the planned action is in protest over alleged anti-worker practices especially by the management of Neconde. The union claimed that the organization wrongly terminated the employment of some of its workers. Neconde also failed to reinstate the workers after the 72 hour ultimatum.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of PENGASSAN said the association is open to negotiations aimed at addressing the matter.
“One thing you should know is that at PENGASSAN, we are a body of professionals and we are open to discussion at all times because we believe in dialogue. We keep our doors open for effective discussions and that has been our style.”
