The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) said they are working to curb quackery and fake electrical installations while ensuring safe use of electricity. According to Dailytrust, the National Coordinator of LECAN, Chief Vitus Ofoedum said this during a sensitization campaign at Gudu market in Abuja on Wednesday.
The report said he appealed to residents to engage the services of qualified electricians duly certified by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) who are members of LECAN.
“We should always insist on seeing the license of electricians before giving them any installation job because if there is a fault in the future, you can trace a licensed contractor but may be hard to trace a quack,”
Also speaking, the Chairman of LECAN, FCT Chapter, Abdullahi Ibrahim urged the people especially house owners and tenants to report quacks to them and other relevant agencies to check the anomaly. He added that the essence of the ongoing sensitization campaign was to ensure that dealers on electrical appliances are stopped from selling substandard materials which remain the major factor for fire incidents.
