Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, has called for fast track on the Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line. The minister pointed out that two bridges will be demolished in the Lagos axis to accommodate the ongoing construction. Amaechi made the call during inspection of the on-going work at Ewekoro area of Ogun State.
The minister said he was impressed with the level of the ongoing project. He said that the job would be delivered within the time frame if nothing caused the delay.
On security of the contractors, Mr Amaechi said he had consulted Chief of Army Staff, Lt.General, Tukur Buratai and Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to ensure that adequate security was provided for officials of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC handling the project.
He therefore enjoined the coordinator of the project, Mr Leo Tim to complete the necessary documentation with relevant agencies to facilitate provision of security on site.
He stated that CCECC is making consultation with Lagos State Water Corporation, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC among in order to facilitate relocation of water and gas pipe lines that are parallel to railway line.
The Minister added that CCECC wouldl commence laying of tracks by December this year and part of the rail lines that would be used for the project wouldl arrive in Nigeria by the end of November.
