The controversy surrounding the refusal of the Academic Staff Union of the Nigerian University (ASUU) to join the Integrated Payment and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) has remained a mystery as the ASUU boycott circular directing them to enrol.
ASUU had on Sunday instructed its members to boycott the circular purportedly emanated from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation Office (AGF) directing them to enrol on the IPPIS in other to checkmate salary-related fraud.
The ASUU claimed that the AGF office is speaking from both sides of its mouth as it was the same office that directed the union to develop a template that captures the university peculiarities and present it to the AGF office.
However, despite all instruction directing ASUU to turn out for the IPPIS fall on deaf ear as they as enquiry revealed that the union have blatantly refused to comply.
Dailytrust reported that Dr. Ben Ugheoke, the National Investment Secretary of ASUU was contacted at the University of Abuja; he disclosed that the staffs were earlier briefed by the branch leadership to stay away from the exercise and subsequently they complied as there was nothing happening.
Similarly, at Borno state chapter, an emergency meeting was convened where members were directed to ignore the IPPIS enrolment.
On behalf of the chapter, Prof. Dani Mamman shortly after the meeting informed members about the ASUU position regarding the enrolment.
In his statement, “This is to inform that members of the Emergency Congress of Monday 25th November, 2019 reaffirmed its earlier resolution that members should not register for Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) until all our peculiarities are accommodated,”
“Consequently, we wish to state that members of ASUU UNIMAID should disregard the letter circulated from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation on this issue until further information and directives are received from the National Executive Council.”
