The Federal Government has partnered with American multinational technology company, Google to create an online safety curriculum for 56 million Nigerian primary and secondary school students.
This was made known by the tech company, at the third Google for Nigeria event in Lagos on Wednesday, saying the initiative aims to create a safe space for internet users, particularly those under the age of eighteen.
Google in 2017 made a commitment to train 10 million Nigerians in five years and has currently trained 4 million with developers, and 35 tech start-up companies through its Launchpad Accelerator Africa programme as well as other programmes including agriculture, youth empowerment, gender equality among others.
Google's Country Director, Nigeria, Juliet Ehimaun has said the company has introduced features to help Nigerians like the Google lens, Google Go updates, new Street View imagery, Bolo, Gallery Go, navigation instructions in a Nigerian voice for motorcycle and car driving modes, and Nigerian culinary experience from Google Arts and Culture.
"Google has introduced a dedicated travel mode in Google Maps to provide directions and navigation for motorcycles in Nigeria. This will also be available in Benin Republic, Ghana, Rwanda, Togo and Uganda from today. Google has also launched navigation instructions in a Nigerian voice for both motorcycle and car driving modes. In the next few months, Google will introduce a new directions experience for Lagos that is optimized for informal transit, bringing Danfo routes into Google Maps", she added.
