Nigeria’s Oluwatobiloba Amusan won gold in the women’s 100m hurdle final with a time of 12.58 seconds at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia on Friday to increase Nigeria’s gold medal haul at the games so far to eight.
Amusan beat two Jamaican athletes Danielle Williams and Yanique Thompson to the most prized medal.
Williams recorded a time of 12.68 seconds to win silver while Thompson won bronze with a time 12.97 seconds.
Amusan had earlier won her women’s 100m hurdles round 1 – heat 1 with a time of 12.73 seconds.
The gold medal makes Amusan the first Nigerian to win a sprint hurdles title at the Commonwealth Games.
The reigning American Collegiate 100m hurdles queen ran 12.68 seconds to win the race.
She is now Nigeria’s first gold medallist in track and field at the ongoing games.
The 20-year-old is also the third Nigerian woman to make it to the podium after Modupe Oshikoya (bronze) in 1974 and Angela Atiede (bronze) in 2002.
