The First, Senator Olumeri Tinubu, hosted the members of the Nigerian female football team, Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa on Monday. The Super Falcons were eliminated by the England team from the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, being hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The Nigerian Women's team lost through penalties shootout to the English team last week Monday, despite the fact that the England team played most of the game with 10 players against 11 players of the Super Falcons after the red card conceded by the in-form James Lauren on Monday 7.
Oluremi expressed her delight at the Falcon's performance and encouraged them to do better next time and bring the trophy home.
In her words, "Nobody can blame you for being eliminated, not after the sacrifice you have made just to make Nigerians proud," Oluremi said.
However, "they should tighten their belts, and give their best to Nigerians through their professionalism, resilience, commitments, and the winning mentality that took them where they are today."
She also held a similar meeting with the Victorious Basket Ball team, D'Tigress for their wonderful performance.
The First Lady also urged the defending champions of the Basket Ball team, D'Tigress, stressing that Nigerians are proud of them and they are expecting more from them.
