The Committees on appropriation in the National Assembly are to submit their reports on the reviewed 2018 Budget to the lawmakers for considerations. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives’ committees will be submitting their report on Tuesday for final consideration and passage of the financial document within the week.

Initially it was announced that the budget will be laid on April 19 and passed on April 24.

Recent happenings at the National Assembly caused the delay, among them the failure of the MDAs to defend their estimates before their respective committees.

The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, AbdulRazaq Namdas said the House had resolved to pass the 2018 budget before proceeding on break.

“The budget is a voluminous document as you know; we’ve been working hard to see that we beat the deadline. This time around I can assure you that by next week everything about the budget will be concluded and passed,” Namdas said.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on November 7, 2017 presented the 2018 estimate before the Joint Session of the National Assembly, as part of collaborative efforts between the Executive and the Legislature to bring the implementation date of budget to January.
