The Wife Of the President, Aisha Buhari, on Friday, awakened memories of her viral 2016 explosive criticism of her husband, Muhammadu Buhari for allegedly lacking control of his government.
In a series of videos tweeted on her officially verified Twitter handle, @aishambuhari, the wife of the president shared videos of sessions of the Nigerian Senate were Senators openly criticised Buhari’s apparent lack of control and made reference to the existence of a “Cabal” in his government.
Senator Isah Misau, APC Bauchi Central, is seen criticising the recent appointment of Ahmed Abubakar, Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations, as the substantive Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
Misau alleged that Abubakar was not qualified to be so appointed and that he got the nod “just because he is close to the cabal, close to the people taking decisions.”
The Senator went on to claim that “so many incompetent people are holding so many positions.” He then warned the Senate President that the leadership of the National Assembly have only “two or three months” to intervene and correct the impression that President is not in charge.
In another video, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, PDP Bayelsa East and a known critic of Buhari, claimed the country was becoming lawless with no consequence for crimes.
According to Murray-Bruce, “Nigeria is becoming a lawless country. A country with no rules and regulations. A country where laws are not adhered to. A country where there is no consequence for bad behaviour.”
He then added “we either have a government or we don’t.”
The videos will be particularly discomforting for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after it had battled to control the damage done by a similar outburst by Aisha at the beginning of the administration.
Aisha had in October 2016, warned she will not campaign for her husband’s re-election unless “he shakes up his government.”
She claimed then, in a BBC Hausa interview monitored in Kano said that Buhari’s government has been hijacked by cabal who are “behind presidential appointments” and that “the President does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either despite being his wife for 27 years.”
