Following the sudden death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Senator representing Osun-West senatorial constituency on 23 April, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed 8 July for bye-election to elect a senator to replace the deceased Senator for the constituency.


The disclosure was made by INEC Administrative secretary, Mr E.A Ademusire, in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Monday. He said that interested parties would commence primaries on Tuesday through to 14 June as the election would take place 8 July.


The notice of the bye-election was premised on the provisions of enabling statutory statutes that bye-elections to fill vacant seat into the National Assembly be conducted within 30 days upon the declaration of the bye-election.


INEC has indicated that last day of submission of party nomination forms by political parties is June 15, publication of nominated candidates name is slated for June 22 while the submission of names and addresses of party agents to INEC officer is June 30.
