The Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) has announced the arrest of a condemned inmate, Rabi Ismail who escaped from prison custody on December 16, 2011.
The agency in a statement issued by Prisons Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Francis Enobore stated that the arrest of the escapee was made possible by collaboration with the Department of the State Services (DSS).
The statement reads in part ''...Rabi Ismail who escaped from lawful custody in Hadejia prison on the 16th December 2011 has been recaptured by the intelligence unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service with the support of the men of DSS.
The Prisoner was sentenced to death by hanging for culpable homicide by a High Court in Kano in 2005". The statement added that the prisoner was transferred to Hadejia Prison from Kaduna Central Prison before she escaped.
The Comptroller General of Prisons who thanked the DSS for the useful assistance that necessitated the arrest of Ismail, urged the general public to continue to provide credible information on escapees and indeed all criminal elements in their midst to security agencies to create a crime free and peaceful society.
He further assured that all inmates who escaped from detention would be rearrested no matter how long it takes to do so.
