The Supreme Court sitting on Friday in Abuja issued judgments for the 2023 governorship election for five states, which are Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi, Nasarawa and Ogun State. A five-member panel chaired by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun affirmed the judgments of the lower courts, regarding the election of the governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and dismissed the appeal filed by Jibrin Barde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that the appeal lacked merit.
The apex court dismissed the appeal filed by, Isah Ashiru of the (PDP) against the governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The five-man panel led by Justice Tijani Abubakar stated that Ashiru’s appeal was “frivolous and vexatious” and held no merit.
The Supreme Court also dismissed the appeal by the PDP and its candidate, Aminu Bande, seeking to sack the APC’s candidate, Nasir Idris as the governor of Kebbi State, in a judgment read by the lead judge, Justice Uwani Abba-Aji.
The apex court also upheld the election of Sule Abdullahi of the APC as the governor of Nasarawa State and dismissed the petition of the PDP and its candidate, Emmanuel Ombugadu in an unanimous judgment read by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, adding that the petition held no probative value.
Similarly, the Court also affirmed the election of the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun and dismissed the appellants, Ladi Adebutu and the PDP, adding that “in the end, this appeal is unmeritorious and deserves to be dismissed. It is hereby dismissed.”
