Anambra Lawmaker Dies In South Africa

The majority leader of the State House of Assembly and member representing Awka South Constituency 1 in Anambra State, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor has reportedly given up the ghost in a hotel at Sandton City, Johannesburg, South Africa in the early hours of 24th August 2022. It was gathered that Okafor who was Pharmacist and businessman is a two-term legislator.

The deceased who was in South Africa for official duties with some colleagues, collapsed earlier today and was pronounced dead hours later. News making round has it that the lawmaker had rounded up with the assignment that took him to South Africa during the weekend, while his colleagues returned back to Nigeria, the Awka community in South Africa decided to host him, only for him to die in his hotel room afterward.

Although Okafor's death has not been officially confirmed by the leadership of the State Assembly, a source announced his passing in the political WhatsApp group and said, “The Majority Leader of Anambra State House Of Assembly and Member representing Awka South Constituency 1, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor (Akajiugo Awka) collapsed in the early hours of today in a Hotel in Sandton City Johannesburg, South Africa, and was confirmed dead hours later.

“Cause of his death is yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report. May His Gentle Soul Rest In Peace, Amen.”

The news of Hon. Okafor’s death made him the second person to have died as a lawmaker in the 8th Assembly since the member representing Aguata 1 constituency where Governor Chukwuma Soludo hails from, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye died in the kidnappers’ den three months ago.
