The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed on Monday that the ongoing voters’ registration exercise has recorded a total of 10,487,972 voters. According to the data released by the Commission, youths between the age of 18 and 35 years constitute the highest number of registrations with a total of 6,081,456, which is about 58 percent of registered voters so far.
INEC stated that 4,292,690 of the registrants are male, 4,339,006 are female and 67,171 are People with disabilities (PWDs).
According to occupational distribution, business owners are 1,578,837, farmers are 1,104,549 while artisan registrants are 497,179.
Registrations by students are 3,084,921, traders are 500,152, civil servants are 274,961 while public servants registrants are 92,273 and others are 493,684.
The Commission had earlier fixed June 30, 2022, as the deadline for Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
But INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu disclosed on Saturday during the ‘Youth Vote Count’ concert in Abuja that the Commission had no plans of stopping the exercise anytime soon because Nigerians were still interested in registering to vote.
