Members of Arewa Consultative Youth Movement, the youth wing of the Arewa Consultative Forum has said it will hold a mock election to test the popularity of Northern politicians that have so far indicated interest to run for the office of the President in the 2019 general elections.

The group made this known on Wednesday at the re-election of its President, Comrade Kabiru Yusuf. In his acceptance speech, he noted that that the movement would throw its full support to a youth friendly Presidential candidate, desirous of harnessing the creative potential of the Nigerian youth for national development.

“We shall conduct a mock election with a view to feeling the pulse of the Arewa youths in Nigeria and eventually decide on a most prospective candidate. The mock election will soon commence on our website and will last for a period of 60 days before the announcement of results. There cannot be a better chance for us to contribute to give Nigeria the kind of leadership it deserves in this 21st century.

"The essence of this mock election is to ensure that the Arewa Youths give their support to a youth friendly candidate who shares the aspiration and vision of the Nigerian youth towards a developed and a united Nigeria,” he added.

He further disclosed that the group had shortlisted incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), and Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna) as well as incumbent governors of Sokoto and Gombe States, Aminu Tambuwal and Ibrahim Dankwambo respectively.

He appealed to the youths to get their PVCs ahead of the general elections.
