The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN) has berated the Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai over the demolition of the house of Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi. Sagay made his position known in an interview with Independent. He said he was surprised that the Governor whom he had so much respect for could descend so low to demolishing someone's house over political disagreement.
He warned that the Governor's actions may truncate the ongoing peace efforts initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari, with huge implication for the party's electoral fortune.
“I must tell you when I saw it in the press this morning, I was really shocked. To me, it is a bit extreme because Governor El- Rufai is somebody I have great respect for. He is highly principled and he is a man of his words but I don’t think he will go to that extent over a disagreement between other members of the party. I was shocked and I am not happy about it.
He went too far because apart from the fact that such action is not right, it can also affect the fortune of the party in that state. One has to think of all those things. So, I am not happy about it and I think it was wrong,” he added.
Recall that Vigil360 had earlier reported the demolition of the Senator's house which was recently converted to the factional secretariat of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The Director of Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Mr Ibrahim Husseini, said the demolition was part of an exercise to rid the state of illegal structures, tackle street trading and restore order across the state. He also claimed that the Senator had failed to pay his land rent spanning over eight years.
